How long is police cert good for?

I've been waiting over two months now for the dreaded TSC. In order to be prepared in
advance for the Moscow interview, I think my fiancee should start getting her police
certificate from her local police.
She tells me that it is too early, that the police cert. is only good for a month,
after which time she would need a new one.
Does anyone know for sure what the life span is for one of these things?
