How do I make up I-751 wrong check amount submitted?
I submitted the I-751 application on 03/07/02 with the wrong amount ($125 which is
the old fee amount). What should I do now? Need advice on how to rectify this
mistake. I was so careful with the application and I goofed with this. Would
appreciate an immediate response. Thanks in advance. Anna

Until you hear from them, there is no way to link an additional payment to the
application. Wait until you hear from them.b

The INS will shortly send you a one page letter with a list of potential errors
regarding the financial aspects of your application - as you may expect, the INS is
very efficient in this regard! All you have to do is send them a new, correct check.
Best to keep a copy of their letter - and your check until the latter is cleared. I
think that you may not even have lost your "priority date" as their letter usually
includes this information as a reference. Malcolm

We sent in an incorrect amount also. They sent us a letter notifying us of same and
also telling us the amount to make the check out for. You don't "lose your place in
line" It was pretty painless.

John & Deb:
What was the time frame that INS took to get back to you about the right amount to be
sent? Thanks. Alexander

It typically is very fast from the time INS opens the letter; probably just a few
days. However, some INS offices have huge front-logs of two or three months until
they even open the envelope.
