Default HELP - L2 (Child) replacement visa info needed

hi everyone
Would appreciate some help!!!
We have just received a replacement British passport for our 4 year old son as it was lost recently. I have to get him a new L2 Visa before we travel from USA overseas in 4 weeks. Does anyone know whether we can get this L2 issued here in the USA or do we have to book an appointment in London?
I have completed the forms and booked an appointment in London but we are thinking that there might be an easier method and save the cost and time of travelling back to London...
Many thanks in advance to anyone that can advise...

It cannot be replaced within the US. What country will you be going to on the trip? Is there a consulate there? Can you drive to Canada?

To get a visa, you need to apply at a US Consulate. For a replacement visa, it shouldn't matter where in the world the Consulate is - so Canada might be a consideration, or Mexico if that's closer.

If you're going to London anyway, that might be more convenient since he won't immediately need the visa to return to the US prior to your trip overseas... which will be the case if you get the visa in either Canada or Mexico. IOW, it will take a few days to get the passport/visa back to you - and you can't leave without the passport - so that means a few days of holiday outside the US whether it's convenient or not. Of course, this assumes no delays in actually getting the visa or getting it returned to you.
