Have L-1 - employing company might close - plase help!
Hi - any help is gratefully appreciated
I am in the US on a L-1 currently - I have the feeling that in the next 3-6
months my employers may go out of business - thereore rendering my visa
invalid
I have a long-standing offer of work from another company - getting another
job would not be a problem
I have a USC girl friend who I have discussed marriage with (in general
terms not related to my status)
I am not eligible for a H1-b as I don't have a college degree
if we got married whilst still under the legal L-1 - and then the firm
closed, how soon could i start legally working for the new employer? and
what type of process would be required?
i am very concerned right now and I don't wish to do anything illegal
through my ignorance

You already identified your options very well. Get married as soon as
possible. It will take about a month or two to get all the paperwork
together for you to file your I-485. Getting the employment authorization
document (EAD) can take another couple of months after that. If it has not
been approved after 90 days, you are entitled to go to the local CIS
office and ask for a temporary EAD.
So overall, you would be looking at a time frame of around four months
before you have your employment authorization, possibly longer.
