H4 Visa processing
Hi everybody,
I have my appointment for H1b visa at the US embassy on 3/9/10. I will be getting married on the 26/9/10. I will hopefully get my passport back within a week and arrange a H4 appointment for my wife.
1. will i need to be present?
2. what documents will she need?
3. Will they take her passport for processing, or can this be done with my confirmed H1b stamp?
I will need to leave to start my job as soon as possible after my wedding ( due to unforeseen circumstances)
1. if her passport does need to be processed, assuming a 10 day time frame, would it be better for me to get to the US first then for her to come after
2. would she need my documents?
3. Can she then travel on a visitor visa (VWP) and do it later
The issue is time is of the essence
I know this is asking a lot, but the whole process + wedding + potentially no honeymoon = stress++++++

Re: H4 Visa processing
You will need the marriage cert, passports and to be there at the same time (I think)

Also, you cannot enter the US on TWP and then change status. You could do it on a B2 visa, but chances are she would be denied one as she is your wife and should be on an H4.

I will not need to be present. Will they still need to take her passport for processing, and can this also take up to a week?

Re: H4 Visa processing
Most likely, yes. At least that's what they did when a young man I work with from India got married earlier this year and his new wife went for her H4 visa.
