I've switched from student visa to H1B and currently I do not have any plans of
traveling abroad to get H1B visa stamp. I heard something like I can stay at most 1
year without stamp on my passport. I have valid status till 2004 as it says on I-94.
If I do not go abroad to get the stamp what would be the consequences? Will I be
penalyzed? It's just to much of a hassle traveling all the way for a visa stamp. I
appreciate any info about this. Thanks.

You can stay as long as you want without the visa provided you don't travel out of
the country. You can stay here the whole 6 years if you want. You need the stamp only
if you were to trave out of the country. Other that that there is no other problem.

Thanks,
