H1b visa extension and travel abroad (India)
I am currently working in New York and would like to plan for a
vacation trip to India.
I have a H1B visa/i-94 which is expiring on Sept, 17th 2006. As such I
would like to take a vacation trip to India some time in July or August
and come back to US before my H1b visa expires.
My question is,
1) How many days prior to my visa/i-94 expiry should I be back in US
(from India)
2) When should I initiate my H1B Visa extension process. Should I do it
before travelling to India or after I come back from India. I am
hoping come back to US with 1 month remaining before my Visa /1-94
expiry.
4) If I filed for my H1B extension before travelling to India, do I
need to wait for approval of my H1B visa extension before I travel to
India ?

----------- you can be back any day before Visa expires, it is better to come back 7-10 days before visa expires so that your employer can file for H1 extension and petition for extension reaches USCIS at time before expiry of I-94

*** better file H1 extension after you come back( keep all the papers ready just attach the copy of latest I-94 that you will get when you enter with papers)
OR
go out when you get H1 extension approved and you may have to get H1 Visa stamp before you enter US as your Visa stamp may expire at that time
*** I will go early and come back to US before H1 Visa stamp expires and then file the H1 extension in US
