Default H1B and L1 at the same time.. any problems??

Hi,
My current employer is submitting papers to process my L1 visa and one
of my prospective employer is planning to apply H1B for me, is this
allowed??
also, does it matters if I have stamping of L1 first or H1B first?? in
such case are both the visas valid or the last one valid?

One of our friends changed from L-1 to H-1 during his green card
application process. Employer is a major software company so my guess
is that it is not a problem. I also believe that the total L time and H
time counts toward the 6 year limit.
