I have a H1B and am trying to apply for a greencard, how complicated will it be? Also, is
it ok to hire my own lawyer because my employer rather/prefer not to get involve too much,
my employer is happy to sign any documents , I will have to do all the foot work. Is it OK
to hire my lawyer to take care of the paper?
Any advice? Thanks a million.

Yes, you can get your own lawyer. It's a 3 step process:
1) Labor certification
2) Immigrant petition (I140)
3) Adjustment of Status (I485)...or Consular Immigrant Visa Processing
Will take at least 2 years from start to finish and maybe longer if you don't qualify for
the fast-track labor cert (reduction in recruiting - RIR)
See any immigration web site (e.g. www.shusterman.com or www.imminfo.com ) for
more details
