Default H1 to B1 -- please help !

Hi,

I have been out of the US for the last 5 months after having completed my 6-year H-1 quota. I am thinking of taking up a job with a company which will require me to frequently travel to the US for stays not exceeding seven months. Will I be eligible for a B-1 visa in order to do this?

Thanks.

Yes. B-1 is not a problem after six years on H-1B. However, a seven-month
stay on B-1 will require good documentation of the purpose of the trip,
and that it meets the criteria for a B-1.

You'd better make sure that the trips you're doing to stay for that
duration (7 months) actually fit the criteria for B1 ... which sounds
highly unlikely. While long stays on B1 are possible, they are HIGHLY
unusual.
