Default Green Card/ Immigrant status

Hi

I was wondering whether anyone has been successful in obtaining their green card and whether they can shed some light on the subject for me.

My husband, myself and my 2 kids came to live in Wisconsin ,North America last year to work for Kimberly Clark. It is a permenant job and although we are here on a L1A visa it is still up to us to start the process for the green card at sometime so that we can remain here. Kimberly Clark is sponsoring us but we have to put up the money, (after all they did spend nearly $60,000 getting us over here so we can;t complain!)

We have an attorney assigned to us but before we make any decisions whether to do this I just wanted to hear from other people that have been through the process.

Questions like.....how much does it cost for a family of 4, how long will it take, medicals etc, do you have to spend sometime back in your birth country, what about renewal of visas while the process is taking place.

Our L1A visa is due for its first renewal in August 2006!

thanks for any help and advice

sharon

There will be several individual parts of the cost. Keep in mind that not
all of that is due at once. The process takes a couple of years, and you
will have to pay for various items as the come.

- government fees. I would expect around $2000 total.

- expenses. The main item will be advertising the job in the newspaper. I
would expect around $1000-$2000 here (the ad has to be huge, and needs to
be placed in the major newspaper in your area)

- lawyer's fees. Ask the lawyer, but I would expect something between
$2000 and $5000 or so.

An L1A visa holder will most likely be eligible for EB1, therefore no LC
would be required.
