Default Green Card Day, NYC

It was green card day for my wife:

0430 Woke up

0550 Got on train bound for Grand Central

0620 Arrived at Grand Central, took 6 train to Brooklyn Bridge/City
Hall

0645 In line at Worth St. entrance to 26 Federal Plaza. Tip: Find out
which line is for appointments. There were two very long lines and
neither were for appointments. The security guards eventually asked
the people to form two lines for the two entrances for appointments.
Doors didn't open until 0730

0740 Finally got in door and went through security checkpoint. Tip:
Place all objects in your pockets in either your bag or jacket that'll
go through the x-ray machine. That'll speed up the process and you
won't have to be stopped as you pass through the metal detector.

0747 Signed in at Room 8-100 (IIRC) and took a seat. Our appointment
was for 0800.

0850 Called in by adjudicator for the interview. We had our 6-month
old daughter with us. She was in a baby carrier strapped to me. The
adjudicator had all 3 of us come into her office. She swore my wife
and I in, had us take seats and proceeded to ask my wife for the
originals and copies of the following: birth certificate, marriage
certificate, our daughter's birth certificate, my employment letter,
my tax returns for the last 3 years, utility bills and then pictures.
My wife showed the adjudicator the two albums we brought along. My
wife was asked to recite our current address and phone number as the
adjudicator checked off the information in the packet. She asked my
wife when we met and if she had any relatives in town, if this was
each our first marriage and if our daughter was our first child. We
weren't interviewed separately. The whole process took about 20
minutes. The adjudicator stamped my wife's passport with a
"temporary" permanent resident visa and told us that her green card
would arrive in the mail in about 3 weeks. The adjudicator didn't
explain anything about requesting removing the conditional permanent
residency restrictions within 90 days of the second anniversary of my
wife's permanent residency. She didn't ask for my wife's two
pictures. We offered them to her as she handed my wife's passport
back to her. The adjudicator was somewhat pleasant, but definitely
not unpleasant. We were only given a hard time by one of the security
guards who found us in the hallway after the interview changing our
daughter's diaper.

Way to Go Greg and Mary Jo! Nice to hear your experience at NYC BCIS wasn't totally unpleasant and was so productive. Where did you leave the dirty diaper?

BTW Please post this experience to the official AOS experiences pages. It means a lot to me and more to those that will be using the NYC office in the future.

AOS filing; AOS, I-130 and K-1 Interview Experiences:

Thanks and once again, congratulations

Thanks so much for posting!
Could you please tell how long it took for you to get an interview after you filed for AOS?

Thanks, Rete. I'm posting in Kamya.com. BTW, we filed for AOS on
07/17/2001 and we got interviewed and my wife issued a green card on
05/21/2003.
