I just wanted to update our situation. My daughter and I received our Green Cards
(conditional status) today, just three months after our AOS interview, and they're as cool
as everyone has told me! I'm still astounded at the speed of our immigration process using
the St. Paul, MN office.

May 27, 2000 Arrived for a two week visit June 5, 2000 Decided to marry and stay July 19,
2000 Filed for I-130, A/P, EAD Nov 19, 2000 AOS interview (approved!!) Feb 20, 2001 Green
Card arrival

For those of you suffering separations and long waits....my condolences. My husband and I
didn't see each other for an 8 month stretch once, and honestly expected our immigration
process to take years. We're blessed. Hang in there as the wait is worth it.

I have one question. Now that we have our green cards, do we still need to carry our
Canadian passports when we travel back to Saskatchewan?

Once again, thanks for all the support we received through this group. It was a Godsend
to find it.

To enter Canada all you really need is a driver's license. You can use your US license for
that. But most people will advise that you enter your citizenship country using your
passport issued by them and you re-enter the US with your greencard.

You should not have a problem. Have you applied for a new Canadian passport yet?

well I don't have a drivers license! I had just recieved my learners permit.. which wa
stolen also... so I am awaiting both my WA ID and new learners permit.. which I
said..could take 10 weeks! I do have temp ones..but they have no pic ! No I have not
applied for a replacement Canadian Passport because I don't have any pic ID yet... its a
painstaking process to say the least.. but I did learn my lesson. I will NOT carry
anything in my purse except my bank cards and my WA ID.

Please tell me you at least have contacted the Canadian consulate and reported the theft
of your passport. This is very important to do as your passport is and can be used to
document an illegal alien.

You can find the Canadian consulate closest to you by searching the web.

Don't you just love the catch 22 to all this. Don't you have your Canadian healthcard?
This would have your photo on it. Or a Canadian driver's license?

As for not being concerned, please don't take offense, but Canada is so lax on their
immigration policies for refugees and illegals that it does not surprise me that they are
cavalier about it. It seems that only hard working, law abiding citizens of another
country have a problem with getting status in Canada.

When did Canada start putting photos on the Health card? Must be just an Ontario thing or
something. Living in Saskatchewan up to Dec of 99 they hadn't done that.

Cheers, Evan

the health card doesn't have a picture. I didn't drive in Canada, I only just got my
learners permit here in the USA ( that was stolen also)! The only Canadian Pic ID I had
was also stolen! so for now.. I have NO pic ID ...period! and ya its a catch 22..cuz to
replace a lot of this stuff you need pic ID but I will plug away!

Hmmmm could have sworn that Jim's had a photo on it. But then, again the man has so many
ID's with photos on it from Canada it is hard to keep track of them. He loves flashing is
military ICard. It looks like the FBI card and it gets him "snap to attention" service on
many occasions ))

Rita

PS Sorry that you are stuck between that rock and hard place Angel. Can you get a state
photo id card from the DMV?

This must be something new. Or province related. Alberta's health cards never had a
picture on them. At least up until I left in '97.

It could very well be that Ontario does. Quite a few things Ontario does are different
than Saskatchewan. Really among all the provinces some things are handled differently.
