Dad's sisters and Grand mother are all US Citizens.....

8 - 9 years for a Green Card for my dad .......I guess it works differently when a child petitions for a parent to get Green Card status. My Dad's sister applied for there Dad to come from Jamaica and i am certain he either had a Green Card or Citizenship now. Pretty sure its the Green Card though

I see that has been answered now but not earlier. I thought maybe there was a possibility that the application was based on "unmarried sons and daughters (21 years of age or older) of Permanent Residents"

Nope -- if there's conflict on this thread, you'll certainly know about it! Generally there are too many people with good knowledge to let conflicts slip by unnoticed.

The problem is that your plan is not really workable within a reasonable time frame.

You are right. The other way around (a USC son or daughter petitioning for a parent) is a lot faster. A parent is considered an immediate relative, and a visa number available to them right away.

That is not the case for sons/daughters of USCs.

Ok guys thanks for the replies most helpful even though it wasn't what i was expecting to hear. Indeed maybe marrying a US citizen is the easiest route, lol....

What about this citizenship route via the Grand Mother? Is this a possible long shot and how long would that take as well?

How silly is that,

How a parent is considered an immediate relative, and a visa available to them more or less right away yet this is not the case for sons/daughters of USCs. How on earth are they not deemed an immediate relative?

Who else falls into the immediate relative pack?

Children are, but over 21 year old sons and daughters are not.

Who else falls into the immediate relative pack?
Spouse, child, and parent. That's it.

Which would explain why you're eligible to apply

Just doing a sanity check

I am not sure what you mean hobbes. I understand for a Green Card Lottery the place of birth does matter so in this case i can enter the DV US lottery. But i was talking about a potential Green Card based on my dad receiving one or citizenship through my Grand Mother.

If anyone can shed some light and perhaps send a link on how trying to obtain citizenship through a Grand Parent works, i would be most grateful? So far my searched via google have come up short.

Hobbes was asking regarding the DV Lottery.

See if this thread helps with the grandparent issue: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...grandfathering

I was just clarifying that you were eligible for the lottery. You said you were British, and for the vast majority of Brits, they are not eligible.

I'm unware of grandparent technicalities... I married a yank (hint).
