Default GC Lottery: multiple applications are advantageous ?

I heard that many people who won GC lottery actually applied few times in the same
year under slightly different names.

While lottery rules declare this practice illegal chances of getting cought are slim.

So are adventages of this practice really overweight disadvantages?

In case one gets caught are consequences limited to just being dropped from the
lottery this year? No possibility of longer term derogative actions?

Yeah, as you can see, the Lottery is perfectly fair and moral. It is reassuring to
think that somebody with lower qualifications won, just because he/she cheated.
Bottomline: be immoral and cheat, the system favors such people.

Do you know of somebody who actually won with multiple applications this year? I know
of such cases in previous lotteries. I've always respected the rules of the lottery,
sent single applications, and never won. This year I considered multiple
applications, but, sent a single one again. I thought that because they changed the
photo format, they would employ Face Recognition Software, for more stringent
control. I'm wondering if I was right?

Well, I can imagine that if you get cought you can say goodbye to your chances to win
the lottery *forever*.

B.t.w. Peter, how come you already sent your application this year? I thought the
mail-in period starts October 7th this year (for DV-2004).

There are all kinds of rumors, and they're not always correct. There are also stories
about people who had their applications rejected because their names or signatures
didn't match. Which ones do you want to believe?

Says who?

amazing the number of websites asking you to send in your info for green card lottery
application right now. the info isn't officially published about the format of the
application till later this year, and apps need to be *signed*, not emailed, as far
as i can tell. it isn't so hard to do the app properly, and it'll cost you the price
of a stamp, not $40-$80.
