GC advice, please
My partner and I are due to wed next year, after he becomes a USC; we have been together for 18 years. Originally it had been my intension to move to the US (hopefully!) once I had been granted a conditional GC. However, my father died last year, and my mum is really not coping well at all, and relies on me greatly, and I don't think I could just 'up sticks' and move to the US.
Could anyone please advise, whether or not it would be wise to cancel the intended marriage, until such times as I would be able to move to the US without having to 'ping pong' every few months back to the UK for a visit? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

You can get married whenever you wish. The immigration aspect is separate from the marriage itself. I can go ahead and get married, then he can file an I-130 towards your immigrant visa. You can make the immigrant visa process go as fast or as slow as you wish...so if you think you'll be ready to immigrate to the USA in about 2 years from now, you can still follow your plan.
Can your USC partner not move to the UK instead, after he becomes a USC and you get married? Then you can move back to the USA together whenever the time is right for you.

You could only move to the USA once you obtain an Immigrant Visa. Upon entering the USA, you'd become a Conditional Permanent Resident.
