Default G.C. Renewal

I have to renew my G.C. which will expire by the end of April. I am
wondering to do this by applying by regular paper printed I-90 form and mail
to lockbox in L.A. (I'am from Chicago) or do the e-file. I have no
experience which way is better and safer. I just heard from someone that
sometimes there is the problem with e-file and the application may lost or
delay for any other reason. Is this truth or not?
Last year my wife was renewed her G.C. without any appointments in Chicago
area. We just stopped in to the local ASC with check and I-90 application
and everything passed nice and easy but as I see they changed this way and
there is no possibility renewal 10 years exp. G.C. without making and
sending application and check in advance.
Is someone has any experience with this and tell me how this works right
now? How long after applying I-90 I may wait for appointment in ASC?
Thanks
