thing is, there's plenty of 12 year olds that could do that around here....being well skilled with niche type web skills is what would help with finding a large company to sponsor you, but being as there are tonnes of webbie's already here, it'll be a hard sell...

Said he a had a friend with a company who could fix her up with a job, would need to require a degree, but there may be a way.

As long as they can prove the position can't be filled with a USC. So she will have to have specialised marketing skills I would imagine.

Not for a H, just needs to require a degree she has a degree in.

Look, I'm sorry about the northern thing. I'm not a snob, far from it. I'm just recovering from a major illness and feel very unwell, frustrated, and generally pissed off. I just happen to be staying in the north of the country at the moment and was having a very off day. I'm sorry to all that I offended.
My wife's degrees are history and marketing. She also has two diplomas in computing, if that would help?? The web design thing was just something that I was going to do from home, not our main income. And yes, I love being a house husband, seeing the kids all the time is great.
Anyway, sorry again, and thanks to all that have made suggestions.

Maybe. Have they hired any foreign workers before? Do they know what's involved? For this to work they will need to consult with an immigration lawyer to find out if they have any chance of successfully petitioning for an H1 for your wife. But unless you can qualify for a work visa of your own, you will be limited to an H4 dependent visa, which means no work. You will be a house-husband, but you will not be able to supplement your income by working at home. In addition to that bit of bad news, you also are rapidly running out of time for the next allottment of H1 visas. The immigration service will begin accepting applications April 1 for employment starting October 1. The number of H1s is limited, and the limit will be reached in a matter of days. If you want to make this happen then you, your wife and potential employers need to be talking to a willing immigration lawyer right now. Good luck.

diplomas don't mean much, it's full degree's that really count...degree in history could be handy if she wants to teach at a uni, probably the best bet as you wouldn't have the H1 quota cap as a hindrance...marketing, perhaps, but without a lot of experience it's probably a no goer...and if you do go down the H1, you'll get an H4, which means you can't work, not even remotely.

If your wife gets a job for a large company with offices in the US and works there for more than a year and can convince them of transferring her to the US, then that'll be better, L1 visa, and you'd get L2 visa, which means you could apply for an EAD, which would then allow you to work.
