Hello:

I am a graduate student at the University of Tulsa, and a Canadian citizen. I drove
to Tulsa from New Brunswick last August. At the time, I was driving a 1992 GMC
pickup truck.

I would very much like to trade my truck for a used car. What sort of procedures do I
need to go through? Am I legally entitled to sell my vehicle here in the US? Also, I
still have my New Brunswick license plates and Canadian insurance (which I have been
told will cover me while here in the US).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the US Customs Web site, I believe they have a lot of information about it. You
cannot just sell the car, in fact, you cannot even drive it yourself indefinitely,
nor can you even junk it. You can only *temporarily* import it into the US, but it
must leave the US again after something like six months or a year.

If you want to keep it longer, you'll have to get it registered in the US, and you
will also have to pay import duties on it. And of course you will have to make sure
that it complies with all US laws.
