Default F1 reapplication procedure

Hello,

I appeared for a Visa interview on 12th Dec 2002. The consular officer
rejected my visa with the reason that I already have a good job and do
not need the extra qualification.

My background:

B.Sc ( Computer Science and Engineering)
Jun 1996- Apr 1999

Work
Since June 1999

Scores:
TOEFL 273/300 and 6/6 in essay
GRE Verbal 580, Quant 590

What he did not let me explain is that my company has laid off most of
the workers and is now reduced to 3 employees including me...It had 45
ppl working this time last year.

And that my qualification is not enough to even get interview calls
from desired companies.

The university has asked me to reapply for the visa immd. What I
wanted to ask you guys/gals is that what are the chances of a visa
being issued to me if I explain all this to the consulate via a cover
letter...Any experiences of getting a visa on reapplication.

Please do share your experiences with me.

....This is very important to me as I have been toiling hard for the
admission/TOEFL/GRE etc.

Thanks
Sunit.

Sunit,

What course are you going to do and which University is it? These two things
have a big impact on the visa approval process. Are you getting any funding
from the University or are you self funded? There are lot of things you
might have to show to the consulate in order to reappeal for the student's
visa.

You have to show strong ties to your home country, a lot of bank balance and
even substantial immovable property if you are self funded. If you can
furnish these things, I think a cover letter with your appeal explaining the
things (as you said) could be useful.

BTW where are you at present - India or United States? Have your visa (any)
been denied earlier?

All the best!

Wow! That is none of his business. If you want to study, you are entitled
to it at least on this basis. If this was the only reason for the denial,
reapply or request reconsideration of your application. It may help if you
can contact a US Congressperson, but that is usually difficult or
impossible from outside the USA.

Stating that "your qualifications are not enough" can be a bit of a
two-edged sword. Similarly, your concern about being laid off soon could
be taken as evidence that you may plan to immigrate.

I would recommend explaining as little as possible, just silently reapply.

Hi,

The university is Maharishi University of management, fairfield, Iowa
and the course is MS(Computer Science). I have got university funding
in the form of a internship to the tune of 100% tuition and 80 % room
and board. so that means my contribution comes to about $5000. I have
shown both cash savings ($12000) and property ($100000). But my
problem is that the consular officer did not even see my financials,
maybe he was in a bad mood

About me, I am in India. This is the first time that I have applied
for a visa.

Thanks
Sunit.
