Default Expiry of concurrent H1s?

Suppose, I am on an H1 that expires in 2 months, say May, at my main job. I
also have a concurrent H1 that expires in 6 months, say August. The
concurrent H1 is for a part time consulting job, say 1-2 days a month, on
demand, only. I won't get any new full time jobs before May, so that I can
do H1 transfer, cannot get a green card and do plan to leave the country in
August. Now, is it legal for me to stay on in the country, past May, till
August, no matter whether my part-time job, gives me any billable hours to
work. (Demand fluctuates in the part-time job and I can have several days
work in a week and several weeks without any work). What is the legality of
staying in the country between May and August? I may not have any income
from the part-time job, but they could need me at any time...
Thx.
