Re: ESTA or B2?
For us, in the middle of August, it was about right. Too much higher, both temp and alt, and we wouldn't have had enough power margin to take off. We used it a lot to define hover power performance envelopes and to develop the low speed handling envelope at high alt. Mountainous terrain and hot is akin to Afghan too. CC sucked because it was always too windy, needed v low winds. BV was awesome. Been in every restaurant in town and eaten the entire menu! Spent 6 weeks there. Fave place was that pub at the end of main street near the river. On days off, we went up to Aspen and Pikes peak!

Interesting, BV is 8000ft? Not considered that high.
Friend of mine is an Airline Pilot and there has been talk over the years of building an airport up here to serve the ski resorts. I remember him mentioning you would need a very long runway....
Nice bike ride to Aspen.

Yeah, pretty high for a helo. There were a couple of Blackhawk aircraft operating out of the same airfield but testing up at Leadville. They had a lot more power than us. BV runway is fairly small but you could easily operate a learjet or even a md-80 out of there. Don't think it had an ILS, might be wrong.

Now I think of it I met some JCB engineers, some years back, they were testing above Alma, 11,000 ft ish.

Yeah, wouldn't want to be there without a massive set of blades and plenty of engine power! Spent more time in TX though as that's where Mrs Dave2726 is from.

Pretty sure a visa application is cheaper than an attorney and cheaper than a plane ticket to Canada. Although someone does not need to apply for ESTA to seek entry by land, the instructions sent to people when ESTA is denied is "get a visa". The instructions do not include guidance such as "or go to Canada". Pointing a gun at someone and threatening to shoot at them is generally frowned upon.
Pointing a gun at someone and threatening them may be considered aggravate assault with a weapon. Someone who was threatened with a gun could potentially see that as seriously harmful. Either way, the VWP was designed for low risk travelers to get to see Mickey Mouse without going to the Consulate first. It was not designed to allow ex-LPRs who get arrested for threatening to kill people while pointing a gun at them to skip the Consulate. That might be worth a look.

Crg, pretty much come to the same conclusion that a b2 is necessary. Fair point, I guess it is CMT. I'll let my friend know and ask her to read through the thread. Thanks

Fair warning: you would be wise to step away from the situation and let her succeed or fail on her own. If you give her information and/or advice - and things go belly up - the blame is going to be pointed in your direction... whether it's actually your fault or not. This has happened umpteen times in the past and the story almost never changes.

If her parents naturalized when she was a child with a green card ..
so did she that day ...

I've told her to have a look at the thread and see what she wants to do. Not really anything more I can do really. Thanks for all the advice

I considered that possibility too, but the math doesn't work. The original post said she lived in the US for 35 years before moving out in 2000. So she sounds like she's at least 50yrs old. In order to benefit under CCA 2000 and get automatic acquisition of citizenship based on being an LPR residing with a US parent, she would have had to be under 18 on Feb 27, 2001.
