Default EAD extension directly or via lawyer?

I have to apply for EAD extension. Previously, all my applications to BCIS
(INS) have gone through my lawyer. Now, can I apply for the extensions
directly? Or should I go through the lawyer as the main application had him
as the primary contact?

Thanks,
Jay
