Hi,

My I-485 was filed in Oct 2000 at CA, and I completed my fingerprinting in Jan 2001.
I also received an EAD card a month later. How long does it take to get a GC stamp?
Also, what is my status right now? Could I change employers at this stage? Under what
category would I be applying for a job? Thanks.

Family based or Employment based?

Depends on the office. It varies. For family based it may take a couple of years for
employment based sometimes it may be faster.

You're "An Alien Adjusting status to permanent resident". You can change jobs
depending on whether your i485 is employment or family based. If its family based you
can do what you want. If its employment based there is generally an unofficial
agreement that you remain with the company that sponsored you for at least 2 years.

Apply as if you were a PR. The EAD gives you unrestricted employability.
