Hi,

After giving up with a green card application through work the end of last year (it
was still going to take another year), my wife and I decided to go for a green card
through marriage and pay for it ourselves.

My wife was born and bread in Chicago, so we went for filing an I-130, an I-485 and
an I-765 Employment Authorization Document (EAD) all at the same time. That was Dec
26th, 2001.

Has anyone got any better time estimates, can confirm the following or can answer any
of the questions:

a) that the usual time to process an EAD through the Detroit Office is 60 to 90 days
- this is as posted on some I-130 web sites I have seen.

b) that if you turn up on the 91st day you can get the EAD done there and then if
you have had no notice from the office - that was from the secretary at the INS
office itself

c) why do some office just take a day to process an EAD?

d) what's the chance of turning up on the 91st day and not coming away with my EAD?

e) what's the whys and wherefores about relocating between getting the EAD and
interviews and suchlike for the I-130/I-485?

I'm hoping my application has not been lost ... I have already have had my
fingerprints taken so I'm hoping for the best.

I called the National hotline and all they said is that they would put a query
into the office on my behalf and I should receive something in the mail within 3
to 4 weeks!

Best regards,

Simon Robbie (born in England, love the United States)

At last Day 91 - I went down to the INS office ... I had to fill out the I-765 form
again but they did give me the EAD there and then. All done within an hour

Now the long wait for the I-130/I-485 to be processed. I hope they haven't lost it or
lose it in our move to Colorado.
