Hi,

We submitted and EAD application for my wife who is in L2 status.

Today we received an I-797 notice of action. Does anyone know how long it takes for the I-766 to follow? Or does it vary case by case? We were expecting this to take 3 months, but we submitted on 1st October. Don't know if this is a false alarm?

Can my wife now apply for work?

Hi:

The I-797 approval notice is generated concurrently with card production order. You should get the EAD very shortly -- within a few days.

Erm...sorry to be suspicious, but is 3 weeks not a world record? We were prepping ourselves for a 3 month wait!

The L-2 EADs seem to come through very quickly; more so than those that go with an I-485.

She was able to apply for work before the application went in. She can apply, interview, and accept a job... all without an EAD. What she can't do, is sign any paperwork to that effect. In this economy, she should already be looking.
