DV2005-> native country question
Hello everybody!
So my question is about DV2005 lottery.
I was born in Estonia(a country that was included in the former Soviet
Union)
Now I live in Belarus(also a part of the former Soviet Union).
Both my parents was born in Belarus.
Both countries -Belarus and Estonia are eligible for DV2005.
I`d like to know what country should I claim as my native?
1) Can I claim nativity of Belarus through my parents?
2) If I claim Estonia as my native country (through my birth-place)
where my documents
will be processed in case of my selection as a DV winner(in Estonia or
in Poland
as for Belarus natives)
Thank U in advance!

Re: DV2005-> native country question
This probably isn't very helpful, but does it matter from which country you enter in the lottery?
I would think you'd enter from the country you hold a passport for. That's just what seems logical to me, and since the immigration process is sometimes far from logical, I could very well be wrong.
Good luck.

Read the DV lottery directions carefully on the Department of State Web site. They spell out for you what countries you can claim or claim not nativity too. If I remember correctly, you are better off claiming nativity to Belarus if your parents are born there.

Usually, native country is the country you live legally currently. If
that country disqualify and your birth country qualifies, you can use
the borht country as native country. That's what i understood back
then. I don't know about now.

Re: DV2005-> native country question
If you were born in Estonia then you are a native of Estonia for DV
purposes. Even if you are not an Estonian citizen.
Where you live now and what your current citizenship is is irrelevant.
There are some circumstances where people can claim to be part of
their parent's native country instead of their birth country, for DV
purposes:

This is not intended to be legal advice in any jurisdiction
purposes. Even if you are not an Estonian citizen.

Re: DV2005-> native country question
PLease, listen to JAJ. His answer is most relevant.
MY example is that I was born in Russia and one of my parents was born in
Russia, thus my Native country is Russia, even though I am a citizen of
Belarus. And the fact that one of my parents was born in RUssia precludes me
from applying this year for DV2005 since it was exlcuded from the list of
eligible countries.
