At the Dv-2004 interview
I live in New Zealand and since I don't know anyone in the US, I'm
finding it hard to get a reliable physical address, and my interview is
only a few days away. Will this be big problem? If i explain this to
him, will he give me a bit more time? I'm a bit confused as to why they
even need a physical US address? Can anyone explain the process to me?
Why can't they just send the visa to me here? Or to the NZ Embassy/US
Embassy in the USA?
Also, when do they issue the visa if someone is succesful at the
interview? At the interview? A week later? A month later? etc.
And is it possible to get any refund on the interview fees?? Its costing
something like $450. That's pretty steep for a couple of hours.

everyone must have a physical address, even visitors are asked this question. tourists usually give the address of the hotel they are staying in. so put the address of the first place you will land in the US.
You will get the visa the same day in an envolope to be opened when you arrive stateside. The fee is non refundable and pretty CHEAP.. compared to the fees charged to immigrate to NZ..

The address in the US that you give is where your Green Card will get mailed to so you should make sure that it is a reliable one.
You should be able to call the consulate and ask them if they issue the visas the same day assuming everything is in order. Most, but not all consulates do, its worth the phone call to make sure.
At the interview, they'll give you a sealed brown envelope with a visa attached to the front. You then hand this to the officer at the point of entry (airport). You'll be taken to what they call secondary inspection where you'll be fingerprinted and have to sign your name. They'll stamp your passport with a residency stamp that will be valid for one year and the Green Card itself will get mailed to your US address.
Good Luck!
