Default DS-230/DS-2001 Embassy saying that they havn't been received!

Hello,
I'm quietly in a panic and looking for information!

My priority date became current at the end of April 2002.
I did not know this until March 2003! I IMMEDIATELY had a duplicate AOS package sent to me and filled out the DS-203 and sent it recorded delivery to the London Embassy (Immigrant Visa unit at 5 upper grosvenor st) on 26th March 2003. Royal mail say this was signed for on 27th March 2003.
I then gathered all of the necessary documentation and on the 3rd April 2003 I sent the DS-2001, again recorded to the same address. Royal mail said this was signed for on 4th April 2003.
I have been contacting the embassy every couple of days by e-mail since 10th April asking 'have you received the forms yet?' Each time they have said no. Today they said they have a back-log going back to 11th April, which is AFTER I sent my forms.
The reason I am worrying is someone told me that if you do not respond within 1 year of your priority number becoming current, this could cause my case to be abandoned. This is why I am worried! Does anyone have any facts on this subject?
