Default Do I need a visa for being a guest speaker at a US university?

Hello,

I am a German citizen residing in Montreal, Canada with a work permit.

I have been invited by an american university to attend an event in the U.S. as a guest speaker and hold a presentation/speech on a voluntary basis (I'm not getting paid)

Do I need a visa for this or will the I-94W visa waiver do?
Thanks

While only an attorney can give you an answer based on your specific
situation, it sounds like a pretty clear-cut case of a business visitor.
You can use the visa waiver.

BTW, that would be true even if you did get paid. Honoraria for such
speeches are explicitly permitted by immigration law.

Gute Reise!
