Does anybody know what my odds might be of obtaining my first USA passport within 24 hours for an overseas flight? I found out today that my oath ceremony is next Wednesday and I have a flight booked on the following Saturday to attend a funeral in the UK. I did manage to schedule an appointment at the Manhattan passport agency a few hours after swearing in, but wondering if I should just reschedule the ceremony.
Thank you!

I think the chance may be slim of getting a passport back in time, but the reality is that as a US citizen you can't be denied entry back into the USA. You can definitely get scolded for it and inconvenienced.
Could you get the passport mailed to the UK?

The thing is that the airline would not let me on the plane back to the USA without my green card and I wouldn't be eligible for an ESTA. I'm only in the UK for 4 days, so that's not possible unfortunately.

It's been awhile, but I got a passport in 24 hours from the Houston passport agency. Picked it up at will call the next day. The NY passport office does this all the time. Sorry for your loss.

It was a new one. I used my mothers passport as proof of citizenship. The US Embassy in London just added my details to a page in her passport after my birth in the UK. Family passports were common in the past. Long ago expired US passports are still proof of citizenship, just not identity.

I don't know if you need to make an appointment in New York or just have to turn up and wait in line before the office opens for the day. At my ceremony they were giving out information how to get a new passport urgently at the Philadelphia passport office, so you may wish to consider going there if the NY office doesn't pan out.
Congratulations btw!

You could travel via Canada, as you could be eligible for an eTA. Then onward travel to the USA via Preclearance?
Just thoughts, don't know if any of this could work

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. The New York Passport Office came through and, amazingly, I got my passport the day after I was naturalized.

No. I used the one on Hudson St. in Soho. They are incredibly efficient and had glowing Yelp reviews. It also helped that it's across the street from my office!
