deportation papers?
I have a question. I got married in the us, applied for adjustment of status (i was a
tourist at the time). unfortunately we divorced and i withdrew the application (it
was before i had my interview for the temporary green card), and i returned to my
country. This was during my allowable stay time for the tourist visa.
I just got a letter in the states requesting deportation proceedings. I haven't been
there since January. What should i do to clear my case and not get "black listed"?
Thanks, Matan

Re: deportation papers?
If you afford an attorney to deal with it, that might be your best course of action. If not, you will have to prove to the INS when you left the US and that you have not returned at anytime since then. It sounds as if they might have ordered deportation because your AOS interview was scheduled and you didn't show up.
You need to include with any correspondence, the Alien Registration number you were assigned, copies of any documentation you have that proves you left the US in January, copies of your correspondence to INS withdrawing your AOS application, and proof that you have been living where you are since the time you left the US.
Send everything to the INS office at the address on the paperwork sent you. Send copies, not originals. Make sure you retain a copy of the letter for yourself. I would also include a self-addressed envelope for INS to reply to you at your present address outside of the US. Whether or not they will use it, is debatable but worth the effort if they do.
