Re: deportation issue
My neighbour told me that if I became an Australian citizen I could never visit the UK again........old neighbours tales, however well intentioned, are worse than old wives tales.

Re: deportation issue
I stayed silent as I really couldn't be bothered explaining things. Later told my wife it was crap.
Long story short, the Americans I've met who have no first hand experience of immigration, have no clue.

Re: deportation issue
The same can be said for most countries' citizens. Brits have no idea how difficult it is for non EU citizens to migrate. Canadians no idea about their immigration laws. Australians, anf so on. .....

Re: deportation issue
I'm sure that is true. I've just never had anyone in my circle go through it from anywhere but the USA.

Re: deportation issue
I guess if you have no interest in immigration as a topic, and have no need to look into it for family or friends, there is no real reason why you should know the rules for migrating to your own country. But if you don't know the rules, don't make gospel-like pronouncements, scares people and can cause immense problems.

Re: deportation issue
Sarcasm posting.
For any deportation proceedings to occur there has to be a formal process initiated and as someone else pointed out due process. This normally starts with a report being written by USCBP on the individual. Dependent on the circumstances the order could be issued right there and then if at a POE but if it is what we call an Inland case i.e person living in the USA then a formal hearing has to be scheduled and the judge will make the final decision.

As others have said get legal advice. I would want to know the ramifications of answering yes to questing 3 in part 12 on the N-400. "Have you ever voted in any Federal local or State elections in the United States?". Answering that you have requires a written explanation to be submitted, and I certainly wouldn't do that without speaking to an immigration lawyer.

Your voting history is public record. Depending on the state your voting history is available for others to view.
I do not know if the USCIS crosschecks Naturalization applications with the voting record. But it would be very simple.

Re: deportation issue
What if the neighbour was to report to her to the FBI or ICE or for voting in the election? It sounds like he might do to me. It doesn't sound like he is very happy about that.
