Default conditions removed, now questions

Hi Folks,

I received a letter saying our request for the removal of the
conditional basis of my permanent resident status has been approved.
"You are deemed to be lawful permanent resident of the united Sates as
of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status"
(**admission date is 7/10/2001**)

The letter says to obtain a new alien registration receipt card (form
I-551), and to do so appear in person at the service office listed, with
passport, 3 photos, and the new alien registration card will be mailed,.

The letter also indicated that's that I should not travel outside of the
USA with first receiving a passport endorsement from the service
indicating that your new card is being processed.

Does my USC husband need to come with me? Do I need to complete any
forms, pay a fee? My work authorization has expired, will I get a new
stamp in my passport? I am assuming the card they are referring to is
the 10 year green card. At what point can I apply for citizenship?

for information, married 5/2000, 7/2001 AOS interview.. AOS granted.

12/2004? I751 still pending given I-551 stamp in passport valid til 6/2005

Thanks so much, any advice is appreciated
Sandra

if you were a conditional permanent resident then your EAD no longer applied. valid or not.

I got my letter from Nebraska last month and I'll be going to Detroit to get my new I-551 and what not with out the wife.
I don't think there is any further fee's

Hi Sandra, congrats!

Here's a painfully detailed account of our recent trip to USCIS for the same purpose:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...php?p=2741829#

Your USC does not need to attend; I just didn't have anything better to do that day

PS: others have reported needing 3 photos, so don't skimp after reading what I wrote.

Your USC husband does not need to attend, but it'd be nice if he went with you. There are no forms to fill out. You have been a permanent resident since 7/10/01... and since that date, you have not needed any additional work authorization. You were eligible to apply for citizenship in May, 2004.

what do I give to my employer to prove work eligibility? I have a
social card with the endorsement that it's only valid with ins work
authorization, and the ssa won't give me a new card without a valid
immigration stamp/status (I can't remember exactly what they said)

thanks!

Thanks! The 3 photos are a pain as the place I went to does them in
2's, so I have 2 sets of 2, oh so very slightly different. Hopefully it
will be ok.

Off to read your link, thanks so much!!!!!!!

Oh I wanted to add for anyone reading, my letter said to appear in
person at the office listed. There was no mention of making an appt.

All my other visits have been without an appt, so I went in, as i had no
idea I needed an appt, well, they will only see if you have an appt, so
make one before going to the USCIS.

Did you never get an I-551 stamp in your passport or a Permanent Resident card? That's all you need. If they have expired, go to the office and get a new stamp. You are not required to show a SS card if you have a foreign passort with a valid I-551 stamp. By the way, once you get the new stamp in your passport, go to SSA and have them issue you a replacement SS card without the endorsement.

Have a look here: http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-9.pdf for a complete list of what's needed to establish identity and employment authorization. It is illegal for an employer to request only specific documents.

Did your letter include the *supplemental letter* with the corrections to the first letter?

It tells you that you need to make an appointment with InfoPass and details the new photo standards

as for SSA, I am going back in there too, but the last time I tried
explaining that I didnt need the endorsement anymore, the person there
told me I did need it :-((

Oh well - hopefully by Wednesday afternoon this will be all worked out

thanks so much for your help, we really appreciate it
