I've heard of a Clinton law that became effective in January. It is supposed to grant
you citizenship if you have been here illegally for at least one year. Is there any
truth to that?

Thanks

You gotta be ****ing kidding me. How naive or desperate do you have to be to believe this
shit<rhetorical question>

Can you imagine what happens if such ridiculous joke get implemented as law<rhetorical
question> Millions of illegal border-hoppers(Mexicans) become citizens, which it defeats
the whole purpose of this country letting those beaners in for cheap labor.

Enough said...

No, it is not true at all. Read the poster's original posting again. This idiot sounds
like any illegal immigrant, who is in the States for at least one year gets a free pass
for citizenship.

The one that you're saying "true" is about the marriage and the life act which it has
nothing to do with granting anybody any citizenship. All it does is that it grants
adjustment of status under 245i for foreign spouses of American citizens and residents
without or out of status.

It seems unlikely given that it takes a minimum of 3 years (if you have a US spouse, 5
years otherwise) to get citizenship as a legal permanent resident.

Where did you hear that ? If that's the case, whats all the H1b workers doing ? just
become illegal and one year later, you are home free. No need to wait for LC, I140, I485,
and commitment to company after GC.

Seriously, how can this happen ? The closest I've heard was it tried to bring the registry
from 1972 to 1986, which means if you are here before 1986, you can apply for adjustment
(GC). But I don't think it got passed.

This may be a reference to a proposal by Senator Gramm for a guest worker program. It
would provide for one year of employment authorization to anyone, after which the
person would return to his home country. "Undocumented workers already in the United
States would be encouraged to participate and, as part of the program, would be
enrolled and required to return to Mexico at the conclusion of their employment." Uh
-- I'm sure.

See http://www.senate.gov/~gramm/press/guestworker.html.

It was true, it was called the LIFE law, but it has been cancelled by G. W Bush just
after the 9/11. There is no way to apply anymore, and the cases which wasn't approved
(almost all) have been canceled.

PS : that law didn't give you citzenship, but only green card.

You've got that right, we've been chasing green cards down here for the last 5 years.
The current one we've had our first stage paperwork approved and gotten our EAD
cards/advance parole paperwork, wish us luck.

One year? You'd open up the floodgates (which are leaking bad enough now).
