Canada: still the quick RCMP check after 9/11
Scads of people seem to have successfully k-1'ed with only the quick easy
no-fingerprint RCMP check...
But does anyone know if this is still the case after The Recent Unpleasantness?
Anyone successfully passed through Montreal with that sort of check recently?

Yes it is still the non-fingerprinted version of police clearance from the RCMP. That is, of couse, as long as your district doesn't mandate it. Prior to 9/11 and for several years from 1998 to around 2001, the Ottawa branch would only do it with fingerprinting.

However, the non fingerprint version is only acceptable at the Consulate if your
record is absolutely clean. If you have anything on your record, even if you were
given an absolute discharge, you will need the fingerprint RCMP report. Take

Where do you get the "quick and easy" RCMP check? Is there a web site with
information on this?
I sent in fingerprints for the apparently not "quick and easy" check. How long does
this typically take?

There are RCMP offices that will do the police check and have the results to you the same day.
Where do you live that you had to do the fingerprinting. Ottawa is or at least was one of those places. And there one or two others that I recall.

I am sure Rete that if the person has no criminal record than the fingerprints are
not requires, only if you have a Criminal or pardoned record you require the
fingerprints. But as for same day results, maybe at a RCMP station at a larger
center. But not at a small city or town detachment, they have to send it to ottawa.

I am India right now and my husband is applying for I-130 now via DCF route. I was in
Montreal for a couple of years and I need a criminal record check.
Most of the posts on this newsgroup have suggested getting a fingerprinted record
check from RCMP. However, for my local (Indian) police record I did not require any
fingerprinting. Still everyone is suggesting that I go for fingerprinting route. Now,
you folks indicate that one can get a criminal record from RCMP without going the FP
route? Hence lots of confusion.....
BTW, Is the "Pardoned Criminal Record" which one can get from RCMP the same as the
criminal record?

The pardoned Criminal record is obtained through the " Privacy Act" You do have to
submit finger prints for this one. here is information for you concerning the RCMP

There is the confusion...
If you see the first 3-4 posts of this thread you will see the people are talking
about getting a criminal record from RCMP without FP.

In any case, I am stuck because I cannot go to any RCMP office (as I am currently in
India). I have to get the record by mail and I guess that FP is the only way to go.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect yet again.
Please look at the website you have been recommending and you will see that RCMP will
accept FP from overseas police stations also. Hence I do not see how you can say that
fp has to be done at a police station in Canada.
