This happens alot. After you make enough entries, the INS gets stick and assumes that
you are performing productive work in the U.S., which is of course not B-1.

You will likely not qulaify for a TN either. The categories are pretty strict.

You should consider an L visa. It will allow you to do what you want and can last for
5-7 years.
