Can you do interim work on an E2?
Hi
I am looking at taking an E2 investor option to buy/set up a US business. As I understand it, if you set up Joe Bloggs Inc as the umberella you can then diversify for the initial core example - Joe Bloggs Car Washes, Joe Bloggs Bakery products etc.
If you have a husband wife E2 visa can one of you then do work as a self employed interim ?

you would be better off leaving one of you off the E-2 ..and coming as the dependant of the E-2 holder that person can get an EAD and get a job anywhere...

I'm not sure what a "self-employed interim" is. The spouse may be eligible
to be employed as an E-2 employee. See
http://www.americanlaw.com/e1e2.html.
"An alien employee of a treaty investor may be classified E-2, if the
employee is in or is coming to the United States to engage in duties of an
executive or supervisory character, or, if employed in a lesser capacity,
the employee has special qualifications that make the services to be
rendered essential to the efficient operation of the enterprise. Employees
of treaty traders or treaty investors seeking E status must also have the
same nationality as their employer."

By "self emplyed interim" I was thinking if there is a way to buy or set up a business that could be supported (or more to the point the family income can be supported) by interim work, in my case I operate as a turnaround director in Supply Chain or Operations of manufacturing companies for contracted periods 3,6, 12 months.
I understand that I cannot do it by applying directly to a company unless I had a green card, but self employed under and E2 or as partner of an E2 holder I was hoping, may be possible.
I think the idea of keeping one off the E2 application may work ?
