A friend of mine has told the authorities to remove him from the application list. He applied( for both he and his wife) close to 4 years ago for US Citizenship having duly paid $720ea for both him and his wife. He has lived in the States for 15+ yrs and to my knowledge has always worked. He has a GC. On recently enquiring as to how things were going he was told that his application would not come up for review until 2010. He has subsequently told them to forget it. Why should it have taken that long? The application was at the Texas Office. Any comments?

I think he is giving you a pile of crap...... the current fee is $330 + $70 fingerprint it was even cheaper 4 years ago ....so why did he pay $720 each..

He is not the sort of guy to give BS. I told him I would ask the question on this forum and let him know what replies I received. So I will tell him.

Well as mentioned these facts seem confusing to people. I'd ask him to
clarify the following points then maybe ask again:

1. Was the fees paid $720 each or for both. Was this paid directly to INS or
was this a payment to a lawyer who added his own fees. If directly which INS
forms were the fees in respect of and when filed.

2. How long has he been a PR and are there criminal matters or absences from
the US which could make part of that time ineligible for consideration

3. If 2010 is when he "becomes eligible" what is it that happens then that
makes him eligible.

He either has not told you all the facts or has them mixed up or you have not told us all the facts.

He may have a greencard but we don't know when he received that card. Naturalization does not take that long if that is the "application" you are referring to. What status is his wife?

Find out:

1. How long he has had residency (green card).

2. What status his wife is.

3. What application he is referring to. It is a petition btw, not an application.

Your friend might be a big talker, like my brother who said (in the
early years) that he came to US because my sister got him here. So it
told him to go back right now and that he would not get anywhere with
that attitude. He never gave me that crap again. He is the baby and
was just acting like "I don't care." He only said it once to me.

And my twin sister was doing similar, I don't want to be here. Only
because she (my oldest sister) got me here. I am leaving
blah..blah..blah. That talk after my sister spent so much money to
get her here. So I said, "Go. Go back." Who's stopping you?"

She never gave me that line again either.

It could be that "he may have bragged as having the green card when he
didn't and now he has to give excuse why he doens't have citizenship
yet."

I led some nosey people believe that I was a GC holder when they were
uncivlizedly getting nosey about my status. One was so *nosey* she
counted the years and asked me whether I got USC. I said, "I haven't
applied for it yet." Stupid question will get stupid answers, I'd say.
People like that (I don't keep them as friends either) just don't
deserve to be treated with resepct and I have no problem to do treat
them appropriately.

Isn't it possible that the poster may just be a little nosey?
