Default Border Crossing

Can anyone tell me what forms are required (besides Passport, Visa and sealed
Envelope) at the POE. I am driving from Ontario to USA in a U-Haul. And where I could
print the forms I might need from??

Thanks Susan

YOu will need the custom's forms for your belongings in the U-haul. If you can't get your hands on them before you cross, then you can fill them out at the POE. Make a list of everything you are taking with you. In the boxes it is suggested that you label the boxes by number and on a sheet of paper list what is in each numbered box. Make a duplicate to give custom's.

Tip: You might be able to get the custom's forms at your airport or a moving company.

If you are on medication, also have a refill done before you leave Canada. This goes for your birth control pills as well. Will save you a trip and the expense of seeing a doctor for a prescription.

Bring a carton of your favorite foods/snacks/beverages (non- alcoholic) so you have a supply while you are settline in and getting use to life and food stuffs down here.

If you can have your doctor give you a printout of your records that would be good as well. Saves having to remember what you had and when you had it.

Don't go through Detroit. I know myself and 2 others who were denied entry with all
paperwork attached.

I crossed two years ago. I needed no forms other than what you listed. They never
even looked in my vehicle.

Port Hope.... Now if that isn't the neatest name for a Port of Entry...

I wish you and your future husband all the best of Hope, Faith and Charity...

A car with belongings in it is very different than a U-haul. My husband had to present them with paperwork and a list for the goods in his car and had to do the same with the moving company.

Better to be prepared than to have to hold up your progress by not being adequately prepared.

How long did the whole ordeal of crossing the boarder take? Just curious cause I'm
wondering how much time it will eat up in my schedule

It took 1/2 hour including the phone call to the embassy( they had wrote down the
wrong a # on my visa). I had to wait about 10 minutes while they changed shifts. I
got there at about 8am.

I am only stating my experience. I had the list of contents of my vehicle( a large
van) but was never asked for it. There are no forms needed for that. I had pets and
told them so, they also never asked to see any paperwork from the vet.

Didn't do a thing, hence the fact that I have been hapinly married and living with my
husband in the US now for a little over a year He just felt that we were crossing
too late and decided that my paystub and work badge were not enough at the time to
prove that I did have a US income. So he told me he has no way to prove I would not
be a drain on the US. We then followed up with talking to several US senators in my
husbands areas and a letter to INS, and here I am today

if memory serves, Port Hope is just down a bit from Port Huron..either way, I have
crossed that bridge several times a few years ago on trips to Chicago...the border
guys were fairly nice. If ya want a REALLY no-hassle bridge to drive over, the
Queenston-Lewiston bridge in Niagara Falls is a breeze

My husband drove across at Emerson MB/Pembina ND. He had a rented Ryder truck. All he
took was a list of all his belongings - they never looked in the truck, just looked
over the list, inspected his other paperwork and sent him on his way. Took about 30
minutes. Take Care. Shelley
