B1/b2 Tourist Visa Extension?
Im currently in US on a B1B2 tourist visa and am approaching my years stay. I have already used up one 6 month extension and am currently applying for another 3-4 months. Can anyone tell me my chances of getting it and am i allowed to stay in the country while it is being processed??
Also, if i am denied the extension how long do i have before i have to leave??
I am also thinking about taking a drive down to mexico for a week then coming back in to the US. Does anyone know if this will cause me any problems and are they likely to give me a further 6 months.
Thank you in advance.

Chances are progessively slimmer after the first extension. A lot depends
on your specific situation, though.

You should be leaving "immediately" - that is, with a few days.

That will cause all kinds of problems. For starters, leaving the US would
cancel your extension request. Then, INS does not like at all if you leave
the US and then come back a week later (you should stay out of the US for
several months, ideally a year or so). Chances are that you would be
denied readmission, and you would be stuck in Mexico.

Stuart clarified this, but I am going to put it into different words. There
does exist a **visa** (sticker in the passport which allows a person to ask
to enter the U.S. in a status) of the type "B-1/B-2."
However, there is no *status* B-1/B-2.
A person can hold only one status while in the U.S. This is decided at the
port of entry. The I-94 will indicate either B-1 or B-2, but not both.

And even if you've been admitted B-1 (visitor for business), it doesn't
stop you doing sightseeing etc. providing you don't overstay and you
mentioned it on the way in to the US.
