Applying for Returning Resident Visa / Permit
I will shortly be applying for a Returning Resident Visa (SB1, SB-1?)
at my friendly neighborhood consulate. I would appreciate hearing from
those who have actually undergone this experience, successfully or
otherwise, or know someone who has done so. Specifically I am looking
for tips on filling out the Form 7765, what kind of documentation to
carry, what sort of questions to expect at the interview, and how long
it takes for a decision to be taken. Also, if the visa request is
turned down, will the consular officer immediately seize the
(physical) green card ? I realize that the chances of success are
slim, so am not looking to start a discussion on case laws etc.
-Thanks,
DM

Some follow up questions:
1) Will the approval of the SB-1 visa depend on whether I have a job in hand ?
2) What will the medical exam entail ?
3) How long will the whole process take ?
-Thanks,
DM

Not per se, but it may be a factor in determining whether you will be
likely to become a public charge.
>> 2) What will the medical exam entail ?
Verification that you have the required immunizations, and testing for
certain communicable diseases (TB, HIV, etc.) and mental conditions.
>> 3) How long will the whole process take ?
I don't know, and it is likely highly variable based both on the specific
consulate and whether they need any additional information or an FBI
security check.
