Shaky,

My interview was in February. Still waiting for oath letter. Early October
contacted my congressman's office. Yesterday spoke to them. The answer was
"well, there is still no reply from the BCIS". At the end of August I
received a letter from the INS stating that" your case is currently pending
for an Oath Ceremony" upon my status inquiry with them. I have no name
change, not even a traffic ticket and not from a "problematic" country.
Can't figure what takes them so long. I am so tired and frustrated from the
whole process.

I have not heard that; I think they can still make him wait. There
is no limit on how long they can make you wait if for example
they are doing a "name check".

After Nov of this year, two years will have passed and your application is out of the time guideline. You can then call the 1-800 number, give receipt and they will do something different other than tell you to just wait.

sorry to hear about ur wait. u are right its really frustrating because i have seen ppl going for interviews months after me and becoming citizens already. NOT to mention they from same area just couple of blocks where i live same ervice center same district office and one friend had name change in his application and he got his oath in less than two months. while i,ve heard ppl with name change wait forever.
I mean if there were no ceremonies and if oaths are on halt or freez, i can understand that but waiting like this is like i am left behind.

i dont undertand this, never been arrested no speeding tickets no dui no dwi. just seat belt ticket as of now.

i have sent my documents to my senator and lets see what happens next.
pls keep us posted if u get anything in mail.
Thanx.

I suspect the processing times are so random because it all comes down to the person who is looking at the application. This process is so manual for the most part. Some personnel are more enthusiastic about their job and clear their workload quickly and some others let it pile up. I guess this is what is happening in INS offices...

Just my 2 cents

No news yet. I got new fingerprints appointment letter and went to get fingerprinted a week ago (the first one had expired after 15 months). Continue to wait.

I just wanted to mention some other thing. In late April I sent an inquire letter to local Newark, NJ office to check the status of my case. I was told by immigration oficer that I would get the answer in three-five weeks. Guess what< I got the answer after five and a half months!!! No wonder we are waiting for so long.

Its official. When I opened the mail today, to my amazement I found a DHS envolope stating that the oath ceremony is scheduled for December 5, 2003.

I was interviewed on October 30, 2003.
Congratulations!
That was pretty fast, I am amazed. What is your local CIS office?

hello guys

my friends wife who went for interview in first week of November and today she got her oath letter in mail. in less than 2 weeks, from same office where i was interviewed and same service center ny garden city ( vermont), maybe because she is woman and they dont have to be checked in fbi name check system. i dont know.

it feels most difficult wait of my life.
or maybe something is wrong in my case. no answer from inquiries i have made and no answer from senator's office.

is there any one who knows why there is delay after interview ?????? not only in my case but in other;s case too.

i know that everyone knows there is name check delay but comon 5 months? 6 months? even 7 months delay??? there are ppl on this thread waiting more than 7 months and still waiting.

i assume there is something else in addition to this name check delay . FBI sends back fingerprint results next day to USCIS in matter of hours, and when we talk about name check by FBI it takes 7 months and longer.? i dont get this.

anyone with any ideas or information plz feel free to post.

Thank you.

I have waited over 9 months. My lawyer says this is still ok.
(she might be saying that because she cannot do anything)
My congressman's office says the samre thing( again perhaps
because there is nothing they can do).

Fingerprint check is well defined; is your fingerprint there
for crimes? no---> you are clear.

Name check is a different story. Your name and all of its
varied versions+ your birthday(+or-2) are searched to see if your
name is even mentioned anywhere in any investigation!
If there is a hit you have to be cleared, sometimes by going
through the paper files.

Now, some people here (with good cause perhaps) balme
BCIS and not FBI. I tend to move to that view. FBI is a
functioning and responsible organization. It's more likely that
these longer waits are because there is something really wrong
with our BCIS file. I think all we can do is wait for say a year
after the interview then take legal action against BCIS. There is
no other way.

Now I must add, I have heard if you are a muslim it's possible
that you are put through more checks and if they decide
to deny you for some reason(perhaps some little thing, they
are not even sure about) they will just not decide and make
you wait because BCIS has to give you a reason for denying
you citizenship( unlike a visa) and they really don't want to
say why for obvious political reasons.
Once more, legal action (WM) should force them to decide but
I would not move on that until more than one year post
interview; you will loose but after a year it's for them to say
that they need more time, no investigation needs a year
for something as simple as checking one's name.

I hope this helps.

Nine months after the interview, no oath letter. The director
of naturalization called my lawyer and told her, they are
only waiting for the name check. Again this may not be true;
BCIS is dysfunctional, FBI is made up career hardworking
officers. BCIS has misinfromed people before, lost documents
so on.

Also, note above Mariata says, she is waiting for a long time and
she is not a muslim (not "problematic"). I think this
country is too good to let people's religious background
be used to deny them citizenship; wait one year and take
them to court, I think you will win. For now, there is nothing
you can do.

dvr,
Yes, it is been a little over 9 months after my interview. I do not even
know why I am waiting. I made an inquiry with the INS at the end of July.
Twenty days later I received a reply from the local INS Service center
stating "your case is currently pending schedule for an Oath Ceremony". A
girl that had an interview one week before me received an oath letter in
early October. I am still waiting for mine. On another forum somebody posted
that on the last ceremony (this month) there were people that had their
interview last December. Meanwhile people that had interview this September
are already citizens. I am a female, no name change requested, not a muslim,
not a "problematic" country of origin, never had even a traffic ticket, came
as legal immigrant in this country and been one for almost 10 years. In
early October I contacted my congressman's office. Last week they told me
that they still don't have a reply from the INS and many times they just
don't send them any.

Hello all! I'm so glad I've found you. I thought I was a lost and lonely case. On December 3 I will solemnly celebrate my tenth month in waiting for my oath ceremony letter (form N-445). I was interviewed in Garden City, New York on February 3, 2003. As far as I know everything went very well, and was told to probably receive a notice within 2-3 months. Well, it's well over nine months now and, as you all know, getting kind of frustrating and irritating. I wish everyone well, and look forward to check from time to time.
