Default Alimony, Lifetime?

I had a woman friend who once told me she got lifetime alimony of
like $500/month, on top of child support. This is how she claimed
to do it.

Roll a guy for immigration. Then claim she didn't know English.
Never mind she spoke English with her lover Said she needed
time to learn. That took several years. By the time it was
finished she claimed she was too old to start a career. All the
while she was getting alimony because she was "unable to support
herself in this country".

When you marry someone who gets into the country can they claim
they need alimony on the basis of not knowing the language? Can
being too old to start a career be a basis for lifetime alimony?
Or was she just BS'ing me?

Live in California BTW.
