"Security theatre"? Only time will tell, but I'd rather have a show that might be affective, rather than none at all that could send out the wrong message to the terrorists that it's okay to attack.
BTW, I'm assuming from the brief period of time between my post and your reply that you haven't actually read anything that I believe is directly relevant and very applicable to the discussion. So, it's not worth my time to discuss it further, since you won't be able to appreciate my arguments.

I'm just throwing it out there that yes it is expensive and intrusive, but is regardless a small price to pay even if it can save one life of an innocent. Because it hasn't been proved to be 100% secure is NOT the same as proving that it is otherwise useless.

Clearly I need to re-order my repellent. Can you add a can of snow repellent, please?

Really? Because this is a big place with a lot of people and I'm sure it could use a little pruning if it means I can get through the airport faster.

Except that the "security theatre" that Bruce Schneier talks about in the program, and has been talking about for years and years now, does precisely nothing to make you safer. It's all show.
Go to http://www.schneier.com/ for much more detail about why it is all a sham.

Oh, that's hardly fair. I'm just putting a different perspective on the "it's an intrusive waste of money that does nothing" argument. Not very much to follow from that, as it's a pretty conclusive statement/opinion.

But perhaps that "small price" (in terms of the inconvenience caused) - and that very large price (in terms of the actual dollars that are being spent) could save more that just "one life of an innocent" if it were spent more effectively.

But we've still had attacks after our 7/7 disaster. I don't know. If I'm honest I can see the need for such scrutiny if you wish to remain as safe as you can.
