It's not what we would have chosen and it was rather startling when we first arrived, but we're used to it now. Anyway, the sink and bath are both Royal Doulton :eek: so they are worth keeping, if only for the snob value. ;)

It looks great.At least the pink isnt peach.We ve just renovated my husband and sons bathroom for 1,500.Managed to get some bargains in Bunnings and oh did the tiling.Such a difference.I dont have to shut the door when we have visitors now.:thumbsup:

Just watched a reno programme here. People are turning their noses up at dated or 70s houses! Why? A wall paper strip and a coat or two of paint, plus your own furniture will work wonders...

I can live with dated kitchens and bathrooms, we need Carbon 14 for our bathroom -it
is so old it looks good - wallpaper and carpet is something else.

I think people are getting very lazy. They seem to overlook the savings you can enjoy by picking up an established house and tweaking it to suit yourself. A lot of these older houses have some excellent features that modern houses lack (like solid internal walls!) and they can offer incredible value for money.

I don't think it's laziness. I think it's a complete inability to see beyond the decor. Each of the properties we've had, friends and family have come to see it before we've got our hands on it and been horrified and convinced we've bought a lemon. A couple of years later (we don't hurry ourselves) they realise that we paid bargain price for a diamond in the rough. They however would rather pay much more money for the same thing but 'done' because they can't see how to change it.

Fair point and well said. :)

Our friend and family were all very supportive about our house, despite its excruciating decor and minor flaws (eg. cracked plaster, broken flyscreen, etc) Now that we've renovated a few rooms, we're starting to reap the rewards.

The most important question to keep in your mind when inspecting a prospective purchase is: "Does this house offer what I need in a home?", not "Do the curtains match my favourite tie?" :eek:

My three priorities are: location, size, layout. If those three boxes are ticked, the rest will fall into place over time.
