Seven Year Itch
7 years and 1 month.
Weather: Far better
House: smaller, scruffy windows, higher price, nicer pool, bigger garden, nicer outlook.
Lifestyle: could be enjoyable except I have to work a lot harder so I dont have enough time.
Career opportunities: Many more opportunities for own businesses. Not as many interesting programming jobs however
Family: My life is much more child friendly. Just not having a social scene that gravitates around pubs help.
Relationship: worse. But time does that too, perhaps just past the sell by date.
Overall standard of life: better
Mental Stimulation: Zero
Emotionally: tiring, there is a lot more stress when everything is new, but not that new. I didnt realise migration would mentally tire me. Travelling never did that.
Would I move back home: No
Would I like to move to Europe: Yes
Will I: Probably not
I am very happy but just get bored around the edges. I need more but am not sure that I am going to find it so may just settle for less

I really liked this. I think I am in a similiar frame of mind after 2.5 years in Melbourne.

I think if this question was asked to every person of the world, we would all have most of the feelings you have mentioned, there is no -one 100% satisfied with their life that I have met yet, we all get bored with work, place we live, person we share our life with (now & then). I dont think its because its Australia you feel like this, if you sit down & think it through really thoroughly you will find its from within!

Completly agree with post. Though can see us being back in Europe or North / South America. We are in Perth and like the weather and things, but find the place a bit "sterile" and the people a bit too clique. Would certainly think about southern spain in future

The problem is knowing what we want.
Even the impossible is possible.
Don’t you dare “settle for less”.

In the UK, there is a far greater selection of written media (both good and bad), music, entertainments and arts, a more visible collision of different cultures. There is also a higher level of interest in world affairs than can be found in Australia.
Anyway I don't want to take the thread off topic, sorry.

Re: Seven Year Itch
Hi Viv
I've lived in USA, Uk, Italy and now am here, for the time being. As a wrinkly I have come to the conclusion that a country is like a glass of water that is either half full or half empty depending on how you want to see it. On a bad day it is definitely half empty and on other days it is half full!
Much as I miss my friends and family and all the cultural aspects of London that I used to take for granted, I don't think I could live there again, but Italy, well that's a different matter!
Good luck.
