The rain is falling in Adelaide...

...so I thought it would be a perfect time to do an update! :)

Ok, from the beginning.

Leaving was horrendous. All I can say is that I am so glad In-Laws didn't take us to the airport, which they were pushing for two hours before the our train was due to leave.

Ok, well do I recommend Qantas? Well, the customer service left something to be desired. The food was shocking OH did very well considering how much he hates flying, so that was great. It was fantastic to meet a fellow poster in the boarding queue! I wish we'd stopped over in Singapore cause the red eying nearly sent me loopy though! :o

We arrive Friday 18th, get picked up by our meet and greet guy who simply takes us to our short term rental and hands us lots of paperwork. The guy who owns the rental tells us that not only aren't the rooms ready until 2pm (we were there at 8am) but that he's going to drop us into the CBD so we don't sleep until bedtime! He was more helpful than the meet and greet guy and although the rental was basic, for those first eight weeks, it suited us- we actually extended it by two weeks. (It was on a week by week rota).

By Friday afternoon, despite being shattered, we had done a fair bit of the paperpushing, (banking, medicare etc).

We picked our hire car up on the Monday and in the following two weeks drove the Melbourne (to meet some family friends) stayed in Bendigo and then back to Adelaide for a couple of days and then off to Mount Gambier and then up to Mildura. All lovely places, especially Mildura. OH was offered a job there, but we felt as we were a bit green, it was probably wise to stay in Adelaide.

Despite being shattered, we are both glad we did this road trip at the beginning, there wouldn't have been another opportunity for a while.

OH found a job pretty much straight away, although he no longer works there. The new job requires long hours (60 hours+ some weeks) but the work is better suited to OH. I found temp work without a problem, but am not working presently.

We also managed to get a rental, (in what we consider a reasonable location, 10 minutes drive from the CBD and 15 minutes drive to the beach) without any hassle. It's a tidy two bed unit.

Truthfully though, these past 18 weeks have been very hard, even though everything has gone far smoother than we could ever have hoped for. OH wanted to go home two days in, when our house sold (three weeks in) he became very down and really wasn't happy. Unfortunately for him he married an unsympathetic %&*$£ who told him NO WAY were we chucking it in at this stage. This caused no end of arguments, :( but the last month, especially with the change of job, things have really improved.

Adelaide is a lovely city, surrounded by parkland and very spread out. It doesn't feel like we are close to the CBD which is fantastic. This week, things have certainly got warmer...December will be interesting...:rofl:

Anyhooo, I have only really skimmed the tip of the iceberg but will leave it there.

I'm looking forward to catching up everyone again. :)

Hi Hun!!

Have been offline for a couple of days and have just got back on properly today - so just got your PMs and seen this update. (Thanks Ic for the pointers!!)

I'm so glad that Sparkyhub is feeling better. You might be a £$%$£* but you're a wise £$%*%$ as it is bound to take time to settle and to get a whole life sorted out. I bet there were times in the UK when one or both of you felt miserable but it does pass and things do change.

So pleased that the practical stuff has been easy. Can't wait to get out there and see what you're talking about.

Does this mean you're back online properly now???

Nice update. Sorry a few things have been hard but it does get easier in time. When we lived abroad before, I think it took me about a year to start feeling settled!
Glad the OH's new job is better & I wish you both continued success:thumbsup:

Hello and welcome to Adelaide! (a bit belated, but better late than never :D)

Things are pretty tough for the first few months, so I think you are right in being a #%$^&* and sticking it out as it does get easier most of the time.

Glad things are getting a little easier, and if you need any thing you can always get in touch with me by PM. :)

Order some sunshine then for end of Sept, having 2 weeks in Adelaide catching up with hubbys relatives there.
Wanted to see hubby's Uncle in Melbourne but he died in May before we made it to see him, so making sure we get to see his other rellies in Adelaide end of the month.
Emigrating is hard work, lots of ups and downs, we had those in NZ, but luckily life is hunky dory here and hopefully stays that way! All ups, no downs!
