My dull update thread
Hi All,
I'll be updating my blog, as I have been doing, rather than posting updates in a thread such as this. I'll just post a bump here with the latest link and/or photos etc... when I do an update. If you would like to comment or ask a question, please feel free to do so and I'll respond on this thread. My blog link is also on my sig along with latest pics taken. http://britishexpats.com/blogs/Alfresco/ If you're not remotely interested in my life, then please move along. ;) See you by the pool! Cheers Alf |
Re: Alfresco's Blog Update

Thanks. It's hard work moving around the place. Hopefully it will be quite rewarding to see what we did in a few months and years to come when we look back.

Exactly the same here with the passports. But I reckon if we stay there that long Aus will be very much our home by then and we won't want to move anywhere. But it'll give the kids great options for the rest of their lives . Wifey and I never want to move again after this, we're tired of this serial migration malarky. Time to stay put, chill out and drink lots of beer :beer::beer: ...And a glass of wine for the wife :drinkwine:
Indeed. We feel exactly the same. Once the kids have Cship and independant, they are free to live wherever they want. At least they have more options.

We popped in to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary on Wednesday and I took some snaps of the animals.

This morning I popped into the gardens at Mt Coot-tha which I have done before, but it was raining that day and so not great for pics. Today was better.
Hope you like them. Thanks for looking. Alf |

Well if things get desperate yeah. Have signed up for year lease on this rental. Thatis the big issue. Don't think the estate agent would try and find new tenants quickly.
Isn't there big demand for rentals in Bris though? Is your wife job hunting too? Have you tried approaching companies directly? |

It will take time as I have read frequently on here. Appraoching both agencies and companies. It was the same in the UK. we'll get there I'm sure. |

Hubby loved your photos - we visited Lone Pine last april on our validation trip the kids really enjoyed it. Anyway here's wishing you some Irish luck:fingerscrossed: |

Here's hoping something comes up for you here soon - not that Sydney is that bad ( hubby was there for 4 months/ us 2 months). We had friends recently in the same boat as you - they wanted to settle here but got job offers in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth and New Zealand. They opted for New Zealand in the end. They were lucky that they hadn't make any commitments here and were able to move quickly.

Re: Alfresco's Blog Update
I may be a bit senile, you've probably already written about it but how come you chose Brisbane over the other main cities?
Good luck with the job hunting/settling in. |

Good luck with the job hunting/settling in. If push comes to shove, we have to re-evaluate. |

Re: Alfresco's Blog Update
couple of things mate. First don't be put off with recruitment agencies giving you the stock answer of "ever thought about Sydney/ Perth/ Melbourne etc" as they always say this as it makes it easier for them to find you work:rolleyes: - if you really love Bris then stick to your guns as something will come up:thumbup:
Secondly just so you know this time of year is the big push up in terms of jobs because organisations want people in place before the Xmas break. A lot of companies close over Xmas and nothing really happens in December & January so you need to really push your applications to get a job secured before the slow down if you can. Thirdly, see as many recruitment agencies as you can and apply for as many jobs as you can. Chances are you may not get the level of work you are qualified to do as for some reason Aussies prefer Aussy experience so you may need to work yourself up the ladder, which if you're smart you can do pretty quickly. The main thing is to secure a job, any job [within reason]to begin with. Good luck mate:fingerscrossed::thumbup: |

I'm not fussy and have told all agencies so far I'm flexible on rates etc... The big push will continue this week and I am applying to all and sundry. Cheers for the help, it's greatly appreciated. |
