5 weeks in australia

Hi everyone, we arrived on 18th jan so been here 5 weeks tomorrow and loving it !!!!
Have a rental property in Thornlie perth.
Kids have started school and settled in well no probs.
Hubby started work this week so a little lost with myself but will soon find a job.
Just a small warning to all HGV class 1 drivers your licence cannot be transferred.
Had Excess ship our furniture and they were EXCELLENT arrived 2 weeks ago with no damage to anything.
Have medi-care sorted, tax file numbers only took just over a week to arrive, so as they all say all good here!!!!
Just 1 question if anyone can help do i need a tv licence here (if so promise i will get 1 lol)

So be happy everyone and go for it the sunshine does you good. Talk soon Tracey xxxx

hi tracy
just read your thread and sounds like you are enjoying yourself out there,
me and the other half are due for be coming over in jun/jul and we're heading to perth or near that area.
Have you got any advice for us on job hunting (other half is a teacher and i a lorry driver but both of us are willing to do any type of work), areas to live or areas to avoid (again both open minded towards where we want to live) and any other information that might be help us settle.
We would be happy to meet up with and your family for coffee when we get there if we're not to far from you
Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated
Hope to hear from you soon

Hi sarah & jase
My husband subscribed to seek (free) and was sent jobs for his trade daily (hgv mechanic) not a problem for his trade over here but not sure about teaching I'm not that clever !!! with 2 kids of my own dont think i could cope with 30 in a class room all day lol.
We were lucky with property as i've an uncle over here that got ours for us but i do no that rentals at the moment are hard to get and as for areas i'm not to clued up just yet but i'm sure someone on here is and would be able to help you. Where we are in thornlie is nice and have primary & secondary school side by side which is excellent for us, and only 5 mins away on bike or car.
Just bear in mind the hgv licence is not transferable over here they changed it all last year not good for us cost us a fortune to get it over there and now it's no good to him got to resit it again.
There's hundreds of jobs evey week on a wednesday and a saturday in the local papers so dont think you'll have a problem getting something, we came with the same attitude we'll do anything.
Are you bringing your furniture with you? If so i will strongly reccommend Excess international cost us just under £4.000 to ship a 20 ft container over with our gear in (3 bed semi ) only took 6 weeks and everything intact when it got here, most impressed and very professional at there job.
Anyway It's good to talk to you got to go now cus it's thunder and lightning here big time lol keep in touch Tracey, Dean xx
